I Have a Different View

I recently moved to a new part of our office. I face the street, but I can’t see the street from my window. The tops of the trees block my view.

When the trees move, it’s so soothing. They move so easily in the wind and the breeze.

This past Sunday, I awoke to an earthquake in San Francisco. I live on the 15th floor of an apartment building. Like the trees, the building moved so easily back and forth during the quake.

Flexible, yet stable. The trees. The building.

Humbling sights and experiences. Humbling to know that you can’t control an earthquake. Humbling to know there are architects, engineers, and construction workers who can design and build structures that are both stable and flexible.

I have a different view.
